Although many of the settlers east of Woking were of Ukrainian origin and of Orthodox religion, they did not have a church on their own in pioneer days. Consequently many of the young children born in the early years were not baptized. There was no minister in this area.

As years went by, the people, the people decided they needed a church on their own. They organized themselves and formed a board, electing Archie Student as president and Nick Shura as secretary. The Land for the church was donated by John Mylymuk. Logs were hauled from the bush and sawed into lumber. It was all volunteer labour done by the men of the parish. The remainder of money was raised by donations, raffles, and some parishioners went caroling during the Christmas festive season.
The Woking church was complited in 1951 and was registered under the name: Holy Trinity Russian Greek Orthodox Church.
In recent years, as the older people passed away, there are not too many of the younger generation who attend the church. At present, the Woking parish is quite small. |
